National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo urged to accelerate vaccination at tourist attractions, with high social interaction, in order to curb the spread of COVID-19.
One of the prioritized tourist attractions for expediting vaccination is the Borobudur Temple in Central Java.
“The acceleration of vaccination must be conducted properly,” Prabowo noted in a written statement on Friday.
Prabowo directly observed the implementation of vaccination acceleration at the Borobudur Temple, Magelang, Central Java. The activity was also conducted simultaneously in 34 provinces, with a target of administering 1,114,750 vaccine doses, comprising 834,474 for the first and second doses and 280,276 for the third or booster dose.
The four-star general expounded that the acceleration of vaccination aimed at controlling the spread of the Omicron variant whose cases had started to increase.
Central Java recorded an increase in the number of cases of the Omicron variant, with some two thousand in the last week, while on February 17, the figure had increased to four thousand cases daily.
“This has become a cause for concern for all of us. According to President Joko Widodo’s direction, we must accelerate vaccination and strengthen the implementation of health protocols,” Prabowo remarked.
He emphasized that vaccination was important for children and the elderly group owing to the highest mortality rate among the elderly.
Moreover, Prabowo ordered his staff to work along with the regional leadership coordination forum (Forkopimda) to implement strategies in accelerating vaccination, starting from mobile vaccination and door-to-door vaccination.
Moreover, Prabowo called on several related parties to help disseminate information to the community regarding the importance of taking the full dose of vaccination and the booster vaccine as well.
“For those who have taken the second dose for more than six months, please immediately strive to take the booster vaccination,” he emphasized.
Vaccination was expedited in Central Java on Friday at 71 locations, with a target of 35 thousand people, by administering the AstraZeneca vaccine.
