The National Police (Polri) have prepared 176 electric vehicles, comprising 88 electric cars and 88 electric motorcycles, to secure the G20 Summit, in a bid to accelerate the use of battery electric vehicles.
“We start from the implementation of security at the G20 Summit; as many as 88 electric cars have been readied,” National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said at the Phase III ETLE launch event at the National Police Traffic Corps office here on Thursday.
G20 is an international forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union that work together to handle major issues. Indonesia is holding the presidency of the grouping this year.
The G20 Summit is scheduled to be held in Bali on November 15-16, 2022.
The use of electric vehicles for the security of the G20 Summit is in line with Presidential Instruction Number 7 of 2022 regarding the use of battery electric vehicles for official vehicles of the central and regional governments.
To this end, Prabowo reminded all ranks of police to ensure the preparation is carried out maximally, including checking batteries in the implementation of security at the G20 Summit.
“Please check them properly so that they can actually operate well, because it requires special training. The most important thing is to pay attention to the battery,” he said.
There are a number of special instructions for the National Police Chief from President Joko Widodo, namely prioritizing the gradual use of battery electric vehicles, as well as formulating and establishing regulations and budget allocations.
Then there are instructions to realize the implementation program for the conversion of National Police official vehicles, as well as providing priority scale services for the registration, identification, and change of vehicle registration certificates (STNK), vehicle ownership documents (BPKB), and license plates, as a result of converting fossil fuel vehicles into battery electric vehicles.
