Police Traffic Corps to test traffic adjustments for G20 Summit

Indonesian Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo instructed the Police Traffic Corps to organise a traffic adjustment arrangement test ahead of the G20 Summit in Bali next November.

“Every movement (of G20 delegates) to the event venue needs (the assistance of) colleagues from the Traffic Corps. Please (put the traffic adjustment) on trial because our national honour is at stake,” Prabowo stated during the third stage of the ETLE (Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement) system launching event at the Police Traffic Corps office here, Thursday.

Evaluating earlier G20 summits hosted in several countries, traffic congestion is among the issues most complained about by G20 delegates, he noted.

“When the traffic congestion occurs, particularly at G20 venues, it will be an issue, hence, we need to practice (the traffic adjustment arrangement),” the police chief said.

During the event, Prabowo noted that some venues in Bali relevant to the G20 Summit are I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, the Bali Mandara Toll Road, Sawangan region, Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park, Mangrove park, ITDC area in NusaDua, and Kura-Kura Island.

Traffic adjustments would occur in roads connecting the ITDC area and Sawangan region to Garuda Wisnu Kencana park and Mangrove park, as well as Sakenan region, he said.

“Practice and familiarise the escort, route, patrol, and parking arrangement before the summit to prevent congestion and traffic jams along the roads and venues relevant to the event,” Prabowo said.

To enhance security operations during the summit, the police have also readied Command Center 91, integrated with Bali Police’s command centre as the control, coordination, communication, and information centre, he added.

“All (installations) have been readied, so on-duty officers could obtain new information from the command centre. We hope it could assist officers to avoid issues while police officers conduct their duty,” the police chief remarked.
