Pongkawin Announces Transfer of Labor Ministry Official Amid Skyy9 Investigation

Bangkok: The Minister of Labor revealed that the Cabinet has approved the transfer of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labor to the position of Special Inspector General to promote transparency in the investigation into the Skyy9 building incident. He emphasized that this is not a criminal decision and has not yet clearly determined that the Permanent Secretary is at fault.

According to Thai News Agency, Labor Minister Pongkawin Juangroongruangkit provided information following the transfer of Permanent Secretary of Labor Boonsong Thapchaiyudh, who was involved in the Skyy9 building scandal during his tenure as Social Security Secretary-General. Yesterday, the Cabinet approved Boonsong’s appointment as Special Inspector-General of the Prime Minister’s Office.

Mr. Pongkawin stated that this action was in accordance with his promises made on his first day as Minister of Labor. He stated that the transfer occurred because Mr. Boonsong was Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labor, which has the authority to command all aspects of the Ministry. Therefore, the transfer was made to ensure transparency and fairness in the investigation. He confirmed that this is a normal part of the investigation to prevent individuals from tampering with evidence.

As the first meeting has not yet been held due to some issues, this does not mean that the transfer is a disciplinary action. Therefore, it has not yet been clearly determined whether the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labor has been found guilty.

When reporters asked whether the transfer would be a temporary one, the minister quickly said he had a meeting to attend and walked away from the interview without answering any questions.
