Nakhon Ratchasima: Pork vendors in the region have expressed their frustration and concern following incidents of counterfeit banknotes circulating in local markets. Mr. Jessadaporn, a pork vendor at Nong Nam Sai Fresh Market, revealed his experience of receiving counterfeit 20-baht notes from customers. He suspects that the swindlers exploited the busy times at his stall to insert fake notes among genuine ones during transactions.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jessadaporn realized the deception after closing his stall and attempting to deposit the day’s earnings at a bank deposit machine. The ATM rejected two of the 20-baht notes, prompting him to seek verification from a convenience store employee. Using a counterfeit detection pen, the employee confirmed that the notes were indeed fake. This revelation left Mr. Jessadaporn upset, as he had heard of similar incidents involving larger denominations but had not expected to encounter it himself.
Mr. Jessadaporn chose not to report the incident to the po
lice, considering himself fortunate that only two counterfeit notes were involved. However, he expressed concern over the current economic challenges, including high living costs and reduced consumer purchasing power, which make such incidents more damaging. He urged local authorities to investigate and apprehend those responsible, and he advised fellow vendors to remain vigilant during busy periods to avoid falling victim to similar scams.
