Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated 700 Indonesian National Defence Forces (TNI) and Indonesian Police (Polri) graduates that had received education in military and police academies.
“I wish to congratulate you on the commencement of your duty, Indonesia’s young patriots. Make your parents proud. Make our nation glorious,” President Jokowi told the officers during the Prasetya Perwira oath-taking ceremony held at the Merdeka Palace here on Tuesday.
Eight officers, representing their colleagues, attended the ceremony at the Merdeka Palace. Four of them were honored with the Adhi Makayasa medal for being the best graduates from each branch of the military and police, while the four others are officers representing Islamic, Catholic, Protestant, and Hindu graduates.
The rest of the young officers attended the ceremony from the Magelang Military Academy, Surabaya Naval Academy, Yogyakarta Air Force Academy, and Semarang Police Academy.
Out of the total 700 officers inaugurated today, 227 officers graduated from the military academy, 101 officers from the naval academy, 91 officers from the Air Force academy, and another 281 graduated from the Police academy.
Four recipients of the Adhi Makayasa medal for the best graduates from each military branch and the police force are First Sergeant Major Cadet Septian Haryono Pasaribu (Army), First Sergeant Major Cadet Always Giving Hamonangan Tiris (Navy), First Sergeant Major Cadet Laode Abdul Muis (Air Force), and Cadet Brigadier Hary Indrajati (Police).
In his address to the officers, President Jokowi urged them to be part of Indonesia’s advanced human resources for building a sovereign and dignified Indonesia.
“(You officers should have) mastery over technology and knowledge. (You should also have) a firm mental and personal character, responsiveness, agility, intelligence, (as well as) firm nationalism to protect our country and Pancasila ideology,” President Jokowi affirmed. The president also stressed the responsibilities to be borne by young officers of the TNI and Polri in their line of duty.
“You should always protect Pancasila from foreign ideologies. You should always protect our Unity in Diversity (Bhinneka Tunggal Ika), preserve harmony among differences of our people, and you also should always protect unity amid Indonesia’s diversity,” Jokowi emphasized.
President Jokowi then called on young officers to hold high their officer ethics code and to uphold their identity as part of the TNI and Polri.
“TNI and Polri officers should hold high honor and devotion, maintain togetherness and unity among themselves, and uphold the honor of your respective duty. You should step forward to your future duty in a steadfast, optimistic, and confident manner,” Jokowi stated.
Attendees at the ceremony also comprised Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, Indonesian Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Army Chief of Staff General Andika Perkasa, Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Yudo Margono, Air Force Chief of Staff Air Chief Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo, and other officials.
