Prime Minister Declines to Comment on Proposed Cuts to Civil Servant Benefits Over Tak Bai Case.

Bangkok: The Prime Minister has refrained from commenting on the proposal to reduce benefits and pensions for civil servants involved in the Tak Bai incident. This follows reports that the Prime Minister chose not to address the matter, instead requesting that discussions be postponed until after the conclusion of the cabinet meeting.

According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister, Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, was approached by reporters after inaugurating the Thailand Winter Festivals. The journalists inquired about the proposal to cut compensations and pensions for civil servants linked to the dispersal of the assembly in front of Tak Bai Police Station, a proposal that has gained attention as the statute of limitations is set to expire on October 25, 2024. The Prime Minister responded briefly, indicating that she would provide an interview post the cabinet meeting, before proceeding to Building 1 with some cabinet members.

This week’s cabinet meeting includes significant agendas, such as a draft minis
terial regulation proposed by the Ministry of Finance, aimed at improving tax measures to promote investment for Thailand’s sustainability. Furthermore, the Cabinet Secretariat has suggested the formation of six committees to evaluate proposals for the cabinet, while the National Security Council Office has submitted criteria to expedite resolving nationality and personal status issues for long-term immigrants and children born in the Kingdom.
