Bangkok: The Prime Minister has reached out to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet in an effort to address and resolve the recent clashes at the Thai-Cambodian border. The discussions are aimed at de-escalating tensions at the Chong Bok checkpoint located in Ubon Ratchathani Province.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra, before departing from the parliament building, acknowledged the border situation and revealed that she had already briefed the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army. She emphasized that discussions with the Ministry of Defense were underway to reach a resolution promptly. In her conversation with Hun Manet, both leaders expressed a mutual understanding and a commitment to prevent future incidents.
The Prime Minister reassured the public that her relationship with the Cambodian Prime Minister remains strong, which could facilitate a swift resolution to the current tensions.
When questioned about former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s declaration of war on the Wa Reds as a measure to combat drug issues, the Prime Minister responded affirmatively but did not elaborate on the government’s strategy.
Regarding the recent violent incidents in the southern border provinces, the Prime Minister chose not to comment and left the scene without addressing further inquiries.
