Private transport sector alerted after Chinese zero-dollar transport company uses Thais as nominees

The president of the International Freight Forwarders Association stated that he has received complaints from members regarding groups of Chinese people using Thais as nominees to transport goods into Thailand in the form of a zero-dollar transport group from China. He wants the government to take care of and use Thai laws to provide immediate protection. He also asked Thai logistics members to help monitor and monitor the transport of goods that come in and to use only Thai logistics services. He also joined in organizing the DITP news event and RX Tradex to open the ‘TILOG – LOGISTIX 2024’ trade exhibition at BITEC.

Mr. Chalermsak Kanjanawarin, President of the International Freight Forwarders Association, talked about the problem of zero-dollar trucks from China that is getting worse and is currently affecting the international freight forwarding business sector of Thailand. He said that he has received complaints from many members of the association regarding their behavior in freight transport, especial
ly the increasing number of zero-dollar trucks from China into Thailand. They took advantage of the opportunity to have Thais hold 51 percent of the shares and foreigners hold 49 percent of the shares in the freight forwarding business. However, the management is entirely Chinese, importing goods from China to Thailand using trucks from China to reach warehouses in Thailand without having to go through Thai trucks. As a result, Thai logistics groups are increasingly affected by such behavior. If these problems are not prevented, it is believed that Thailand will soon become a transit base for goods from China without any preventive measures.

However, the members of the International Freight Forwarders Association believe that relevant government agencies must come in to solve the problem and find concrete preventive measures, especially if any transporter does not have a license, they should not be the one to send goods in or must strictly comply with the law on foreign business operations to prevent those w
ho want to enter and must proceed in accordance with Thai laws. At the same time, the private sector will emphasize that the more than 250 international freight forwarders must help keep an eye out for the government. If multinational companies want to transport goods into Thailand, they must use only Thai logistics services. The problem of zero-dollar transport from China that has started to spread in Thailand at this time cannot yet be assessed as a monetary damage. However, if government agencies let this issue continue for a long time and do not use legal measures to protect them, the damage will definitely increase in the future.

In addition, Mrs. Wannaporn Ketthat, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, the chairman of the opening ceremony, said that logistics is the heart of driving the economy and developing the country’s competitiveness. It is also one of the 7 target industries according to the government’s IGNITE THAILAND vision to develop the country into a world-class industrial
city center. The government has therefore continuously emphasized promoting the development of logistics systems and infrastructure to make Thailand the logistics center of the ASEAN region.

In this regard, effective logistics management will help increase opportunities for Thai products and services to access foreign markets more easily. Logistics service providers must adjust their working methods to accommodate the rapid changes in today’s world in order to meet customer needs and solve problems for customers effectively.

‘Preparing logistics entrepreneurs to cope with challenges and seek cooperation with foreign logistics service providers is a way to create advantages and continuous connectivity in the logistics system. TILOG – LOGISTIX 2024 will play an important role in demonstrating the potential, readiness and cooperation of the Thai logistics industry in becoming the logistics hub of the ASEAN region, as well as being a platform to expand business opportunities and cooperation between logistics en
trepreneurs and international traders in the ASEAN region through various activities presented at this event.

Ms. Natthaya Suchinda, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion, said that the ‘TILOG-LOGISTIX 2024’ event will be another channel to disseminate knowledge and create business opportunities for Thai logistics entrepreneurs to expand their business networks, prepare for competition and changes in trade regulations and measures, and will also help push Thailand to improve the quality and standards of its services to maintain its position as the center of logistics business in the region. Therefore, this year’s event, which will feature more than 160 companies presenting innovations and technologies of logistics products and services from more than 415 brands from 25 countries, aims to attract more than 9,000 visitors this year, and is expected to generate

no less than 2 billion baht in sales value. The “TILOG – LOGISTIX 2024” event is scheduled to be held from August
15-17 at BITEC Hall 98.
