An official from the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) outlined several targets for developing natural resources (SDA) infrastructure this year during a meeting with Commission V of the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
“(Speaking of) The target for developing SDA infrastructure in 2022, among others, we plan to build 10,035 hectares as irrigation areas, then rehabilitate irrigation networks covering an area of 142,615 hectares,” director-general of water resources, Jarot Widyoko, informed the commission.
The Directorate General of Water Resources (SDA) will build 35 dams in 2022, out of which two will be new dams and 33 are already in the process of construction, he said.
“We also plan to build 21 reservoirs as well as flood control and coastal protection for 157 km. Plus, we will increase water availability by 2.86 cubic meters per second,” he added.
Widyoko said that the budget ceiling for the directorate general this year is Rp41.23 trillion.
Most of the 2022 budget ceiling will be allocated for capital expenditures of Rp29.79 trillion (72.25 percent), followed by goods expenditures of Rp10.34 trillion (25.08 percent) and personnel expenditures of Rp1.10 trillion (2.67 percent), he disclosed.
Earlier, PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono had emphasized that infrastructure development in 2022 must focus on optimization, maintenance, operations, and rehabilitation (OPOR).
Regarding optimization, all infrastructure developments that have been completed must be evaluated, inventoried, and utilized, the minister said. In 2022, infrastructure maintenance programs should be more prominent, Hadimuljono added.
The focus will be on operating projects completed in 2021 and earlier after completing the pilot stage, he said.
Meanwhile, rehabilitation will focus on fixing existing infrastructure and infrastructure damaged due to disasters, he informed. The program will return the infrastructure to its original function, for example, fixing bridges damaged in a disaster, he explained.
