RBC Secretary-General Meeting Continues Amid Rumors of Cancellation

Sa kaeo: The RBC Secretary-General meeting has not been canceled. The discussion process continues, despite earlier rumors suggesting a collapse due to the Cambodian side not yet arriving to attend.

According to Thai News Agency, after the meeting of the Joint Border Committee in the Second Army Area was postponed to August 27, 2025, many parties were focused on the meeting of the First Army Area, which was to take place tomorrow (August 22). However, it appears that today, when the time came for the RBC secretary-level meeting, the Cambodian side had not yet arrived.

Atmosphere at the Officers’ Club, 19th Military Circle, Sa Kaeo Province, meeting of the Thai-Cambodian Regional Border Committee (RBC) in an extraordinary session, which was scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The 1st Army Area, led by Major General Suravich Daengchan, Chief of Staff of the 1st Army Area, chaired the working group on the Thai side, while Cambodia was led by Lieutenant General So Kumpa, Deputy Commander of the 5th Military Region.

The meeting will be to finalize the 13-point agreement from the General Border Committee meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on August 7th, including further discussions on the ground. It’s important to keep an eye on the two points Cambodia isn’t cheating on in the 13 points: bomb funding and scammers and online gambling. It’s well known that the 1st Army has casinos and scammers along the border.

However, by 5:00 PM, the Cambodian side had still not arrived at the meeting location, causing some of the media to return and rumors that the meeting might be canceled began to circulate.

Before clarity emerged at 6:00 PM, the First Army Region Facebook page posted a message confirming that the RBC meeting had not yet been canceled, and there were reports that documents were currently being reviewed. The Cambodian side might arrive at the meeting location around 8:00 PM.

However, we’ll have to keep an eye on tomorrow’s RBC meeting to see what agreements will be reached and whether there will be any movement from the temporary observer team (IOT) to Ban Nong Chan.
