Ubon Ratchathani: Region 2 Army Commander has reiterated the importance of Cambodia adhering to MOU 43 following a second violation involving cullet digging. The incident led to a clash between Thai and Cambodian soldiers, with Thai forces entering negotiations yet vowing to protect sovereignty based on the 1:50,000 plan.
According to Thai News Agency, Lt. Gen. Boonsin Phadklang, commander of the 2nd Army, addressed the clash between Thai and Cambodian soldiers at Chong Bok, Ubon Ratchathani Province. Earlier today, the Suranaree Forces discovered Cambodian soldiers engaged in cullet digging at a site similar to Hill 745, a disputed area at Chong Bok. Thai soldiers initially attempted negotiations, but the situation escalated when Cambodian forces retaliated, resulting in a clash. Local commanders are currently engaged in talks to resolve the issue.
Lt. Gen. Boonsin emphasized that the Thai soldiers are committed to safeguarding sovereignty in line with the 1:50,000 plan. In areas of overlapping claims between the two countries, continuous patrols are maintained to prevent encroachment. He stressed that all parties must comply with the MOU established in 2000, underscoring the ongoing need for diplomacy and adherence to agreed-upon protocols.
