Region 2 Army Commander Urges Cambodia to Comply with MOU 43 Amidst Tensions Over Cullet Digging

Ubon Ratchathani: Region 2 Army Commander has reiterated the necessity for Cambodia to adhere to MOU 43 following a second violation involving cullet digging, which led to a clash as Thai soldiers engaged in negotiations and vowed to protect their sovereignty.

According to Thai News Agency, Lt. Gen. Boonsin Phadklang, the commander of the 2nd Army, addressed the incident involving Thai and Cambodian soldiers at Chong Bok, located in Ubon Ratchathani Province. The Suranaree Forces discovered Cambodian soldiers engaged in cullet digging in a contested area similar to Hill 745 at Chong Bok. This activity prompted Thai soldiers to initiate negotiations, but the situation escalated when Cambodian forces fired back, resulting in a clash.

Lt. Gen. Phadklang emphasized that Thai soldiers are committed to safeguarding their sovereignty based on the 1:50,000 plan. The area in question is an overlapping region claimed by both nations, necessitating continuous patrols to prevent encroachments. He stressed the importance of all parties adhering to the MOU 2000 to resolve the issue at hand.
