Bangkok: Family members and relatives of Boss Chai, involved in the Icon case, visited him at the Bangkok Special Prison for the first time following the completion of their quarantine period. According to Thai News Agency, the deputy spokesperson of the Corrections Department stated that the visitors have begun to adjust well, with reduced stress levels, and no reports of illness among them.
At 10:30 a.m., Mr. Witoon Kaengngan, the lawyer for Mr. Woraratpol Woratworakul, also known as Boss Paul, arrived at the prison to file a complaint related to a police investigation involving an employee of The Icon Group. The case also involved a female complainant demanding money and requiring Mr. Woraratpol to sign a power of attorney. Mr. Kaengngan reported that Boss Paul’s secretary and sister were expected to visit him at 10:10 a.m., though he was unsure about other male bosses, who might have been visited by their lawyers.
The visiting area comprises seven rooms, each with four chairs spaced an arm’s length apar
t. Communication occurs via telephones similar to old landlines, with masks worn at all times. Visitors must register at a screening point and be listed among the ten names reported by the prisoner. Visits are capped at 20 minutes each. The facility includes a LINE family visiting room, a prisoner welfare shop, and a prisoner deposit room, with additional rooms for lawyers and interpreters. Visitors are required to store communication devices in lockers before entering the visiting rooms.
On October 24, the prison’s meal offerings included chicken soup with vegetables and steamed rice for breakfast, chicken and vegetable vermicelli soup for lunch, and a dinner menu featuring spicy fish curry, pork with vegetables, turmeric fried fish, and steamed rice.
Ms. Kanokwan Jiwchueaphan, the acting director of the Central Women’s Correctional Institution and deputy spokesperson of the Department of Corrections, reported that both male and female bosses have shown signs of adjustment, with no current health issues. M
ale bosses who have completed their quarantine will now be housed in the prisoner holding area during the trial, while female bosses have already been moved. However, specific details about cell numbers and visiting schedules remain undisclosed for security and privacy reasons.
Following the visit, Boss Paul’s relatives departed the prison at 10:50 a.m., opting not to speak with the media before leaving.
