Reopening of Tebet Eco Park ensures visitors’ comfort: Governor

The Jakarta provincial government said the reopening of Tebet Eco Park in South Jakarta will guarantee the comfort of visitors, Governor Anies Baswedan remarked here Friday.

“We want to ensure that the place is comfortable and clean, and visitors can also be disciplined (in parking their vehicles),” the Jakarta governor stated.

The governor remarked that the park, with an area spanning seven hectares, will reopen in the near future, though he has not confirmed the exact date.

Meanwhile, Baswedan noted that as Tebet Eco Park is designated as a low-emission zone, only vehicles owned by residents living in proximity to the park can drive through the surrounding roads.

“For the public looking to use the Tebet Eco Park, a spot will be provided for them to park, so there will be no build-up (of parked cars),” he remarked.

Earlier, the Tebet Eco Park was temporarily closed until the end of June, but the closure was then extended until the end of July 2022.

The decision to temporarily close was announced after the Jakarta provincial government and the South Jakarta city government discussed the problems of street vendors and illegal parking around Tebet Eco Park.

Hence, on Tuesday, June 14, the Jakarta City Parks and City Forest Office announced the temporary closure of Tebet Eco Park via the @tamanhutandki Instagram account.

“The temporary closure of Tebet Eco Park, for park maintenance and facility repairs, (will last) until the end of June 2022,” it said.

The park is known for its “infinity link bridge” that stands six meters high above ground level, offering a new perspective of Jakarta’s skylines. The park brands itself as a place where humans and nature can interact in harmony.
