While it is categorized as moderate, this does not mean that it cannot rise or decline
Bintan, Kepulauan Riau The general election vulnerability index survey result shows that Riau Islands is categorized as moderately vulnerable during the 2024 General Election, Member of Riau Islands’ General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) Indrawan stated here, Saturday.
This vulnerability potential is an early sign that can be used by the Riau Islands Bawaslu and other authorities to conduct various preventive efforts.
“While it is categorized as moderate, this does not mean that it cannot rise or decline. This certainly depends on the prevention effort that we take together,” he remarked.
According to Indrawan, at least three potential vulnerabilities can occur in Riau Islands throughout the 2024 General Election, with the first one relating to government officials’ neutrality.
Based on the earlier election experience, Riau Islands Bawaslu handled several cases related to the neutrality of state civil apparatuses (ASNs) and village apparatus.
“We monitor ASN, military, and police activities that have something to do with the election’s neutrality. We certainly coordinate with other authorities in conducting the prevention effort,” he stated.
The second vulnerability involves money politics. Riau Islands Bawaslu also handles several cases related to money politics in the previous election that are expected to not recur in the upcoming election.
“We expect all general election participants to not carry out money politics to garner support,” he remarked. The third vulnerability concerns the neutrality of the general election organizer. In the previous election, there have been cases related to biased election organizers.
“Temptation during the election is quite powerful. Therefore, the election organizer should remain committed in carrying out its duties professionally and with integrity,” he stated.
In addition to these three problems, Indrawan also revealed that the agency had formed a special team to monitor political activities on social media.
General election participants and their supporters are expected to respect each other to prevent conflict on social media.
“We also remind ASNs to restrain themselves, to not get involved or to become trapped in giving support both directly and through social media,” he noted.
