Rich man shoots girlfriend to death before killing himself, suspected jealousy motive

A 40-year-old man shot his girlfriend seven times in her dormitory in downtown Korat before turning the trigger on himself, possibly due to jealousy.

Police from Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima Police Station and rescue workers investigated a shooting incident that left two people dead at a dormitory in Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima District in the middle of last night. At the scene, in front of the room on the first floor, the body of Ms. Ratchanikan, 40 years old, was found shot with a 9 mm. magazine pistol in the head, abdomen, and body a total of 7 times. In the room, 7 bullet casings were found, only 4 meters apart, the body of Mr. Direk, 40 years old, was found shot with the same type of gun in the right temple and exited through the left temple. Next to Mr. Direk’s body, a 9 mm. magazine pistol and 1 bullet casing were found.

Asking people in the next room, they said that before the incident, they heard the two of them arguing violently. Then they heard a gunshot. Ms. Ratchanee ran out of the room shouting for h
elp before Mr. Direk followed and shot Ms. Ratchanee until she died and used the same gun to end his own life.

Initially, the police assumed that this tragic incident was likely caused by jealousy. Ms. Ratchanikorn came to work at a company in Nakhon Ratchasima and rented a room alone. Mr. Direk, the perpetrator, did not live with her but occasionally visited her. On the day of the incident, he drove a pickup truck to see Ms. Ratchanikorn at her dormitory. He thought that she might have a new man and was starting to distance herself from him, so he planned to bring a gun to commit the crime.
