Rising Temperatures and Heavy Rains Forecasted for Thailand’s Southern Regions.

Bangkok: Temperatures in the upper regions of Thailand are on the rise, while the lower South braces for heavy rainfall, as forecasted by the Meteorological Department. The northeastern part of the country will experience cool to cold weather, with morning fog expected across the upper regions. Meanwhile, the southern region will witness a reduction in rainfall, though heavy rain is anticipated in some areas of the lower South, raising concerns for potential flash floods, forest runoff, and river overflows.

According to Thai News Agency, the weather forecast for the next 24 hours indicates a weakening high-pressure area or cold air mass from China, which is currently affecting the upper southern region and the South China Sea. This weakening will lead to a gradual increase in temperatures and the presence of morning fog across the affected areas. Despite this, the northeastern region will continue to experience cool to cold weather. Additionally, residents in the northern, central, and eastern regions, inclu
ding Bangkok, are advised to be cautious of fires due to dry conditions and to take preventive measures against health issues linked to the changing weather.

The northeast monsoon, which influences the Gulf of Thailand and the South, has weakened, resulting in decreased rainfall across the southern region. Nevertheless, a low-pressure cell over the Strait of Malacca will continue to bring heavy rain to parts of the lower South. Residents in these areas should remain vigilant of the dangers posed by heavy and accumulated rainfall, which could lead to flash floods, forest runoff, and overflowing rivers, especially in hillside and low-lying regions near waterways.

Furthermore, maritime conditions in the lower Gulf of Thailand will see waves reaching approximately 2 meters, with higher waves expected during thunderstorms. In the upper Gulf of Thailand, waves will range from 1 to 2 meters, while the Andaman Sea will experience waves of about 1 meter, increasing beyond 2 meters offshore and during thunderstorms.
Mariners are advised to exercise caution and avoid sailing in thunderstorm-prone areas.
