**Rising Water Levels in 11 Thai Provinces Prompt Urgent Warnings**

Bangkok: Residents in 11 provinces downstream of the Chao Phraya Dam have been advised to prepare for rising water levels, which are expected to increase by 30 to 50 centimeters. The National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office has issued this warning as water discharge rates increase amid ongoing heavy rains. The situation is expected to stabilize after October 26, 2024, as the impact of Typhoon Chami remains indirect, causing only sporadic heavy rain and strong winds in northeastern regions.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, advisor to the Prime Minister and spokesman for the Flood, Storm and Landslide Relief Operation Center, reported that significant rainfall in provinces above the Chao Phraya Dam-Uthai Thani, Kamphaeng Phet, and Suphan Buri-has raised the water volume to 2,116 cubic meters per second. Consequently, the National Disaster Relief Center (NDRC) has increased the water discharge rate to 1,600 cubic meters per second, impacting 11 downstream provinces including Uthai T
hani, Chai Nat, and Bangkok. The Royal Irrigation Department has urged local authorities and residents to remain vigilant.

Public warnings emphasize the need for residents and businesses along the river to prepare for rising waters, particularly in low-lying areas outside embankments. Mr. Jirayu noted that further increases in water discharge are anticipated, reaching 1,750 cubic meters per second on October 25 and 1,900 cubic meters per second on October 26. Should upstream water levels decrease, discharge rates will be adjusted to mitigate the impact on local communities.

While Tropical Storm Trami is forecasted to pass through Luzon Island in the Philippines and move towards Vietnam, it is not expected to directly affect Thailand. However, increased cloud cover and rain, along with strong winds, may affect the northeastern regions, particularly Ubon Ratchathani, Amnat Charoen, Mukdahan, and Yasothon.

In tandem with these precautionary measures, efforts to expedite compensation payments to flood victims
are underway, as mandated by Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra. Mr. Jirayu reported successful transfers to 63,276 households, totaling 569,420,000 baht. Efforts are ongoing to resolve issues with 1,669 households unable to receive payments due to registration or account issues, with the aim of completing transfers by the end of October.
