Bangkok: Thousands of people gathered under the Rama VIII Bridge in Bangkok to witness the royal merit-making ceremony of offering Kathin robes by royal barge procession, an event that evoked an overwhelming emotional response from attendees.
According to Thai News Agency, the atmosphere was charged with anticipation as approximately 4,000 people seated themselves to watch the procession, while many more stood outside the designated viewing areas. The event began at 16:00 hrs, with the crowd eagerly capturing photographs of the intricately adorned royal barges. As the Suphannahong Royal Barge passed by, the crowd erupted in a chorus of “Long Live the King,” waving the Thai flag and emblem. The sight moved some spectators to tears.
Participants shared their personal experiences, with one Bangkok resident expressing his long-held desire to witness the procession firsthand. He reserved his seat early in the morning and described the experience as deeply moving, marking his first encounter with such a royal cer
emony.
A family attending the event with their elderly father in a wheelchair described the indescribable atmosphere and their pride in Thailand’s unique royal tradition, which remains well-preserved. Another attendee, who traveled alone from Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, praised the event’s organization and the helpfulness of officials, who provided detailed information about the boats. She also admitted to being brought to tears by the procession’s beauty.
After the procession concluded, many attendees remained to watch a live broadcast of the ceremony on a large LED screen. Demonstrating community spirit, numerous individuals assisted officials by clearing chairs and collecting trash, showcasing the kindness and cooperation of the Thai people.
