Royal Barge Procession Rehearsal Begins in Bangkok Ahead of Royal Visit

Bangkok: Today marks the first day of the full dress rehearsal for the Royal Barge Procession, which is set to honor His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen during their upcoming visit to Wat Arun Ratchawararam for a merit-making ceremony and to offer Kathin robes on 27 October.

According to Thai News Agency, the rehearsal is an integral part of the preparations for the royal visit, ensuring that every aspect of the procession runs smoothly. The Royal Barge Procession is a significant cultural and historical event that showcases Thailand’s rich heritage and royal traditions. It involves a fleet of ornately decorated barges that sail down the Chao Phraya River, accompanied by traditional music and ceremonial chants.

The main event, scheduled for the end of October, will see the King and Queen participate in the annual Kathin ceremony, a Buddhist tradition involving the offering of robes and other necessities to monks to mark the end of the Vassa, or rainy season. The ceremony at Wat Arun Ratchawararam
, also known as the Temple of Dawn, is one of the most visually striking settings in Thailand, adding to the solemnity and splendor of the occasion.

The full dress rehearsal ensures that participants, including rowers, musicians, and ceremonial attendants, are well-coordinated. This preparation helps preserve the dignity and smooth execution of the procession, reflecting the deep respect and reverence the Thai people have for their monarchy.
