Saraburi: His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen performed a significant royal merit-making ceremony by offering Kathin robes at the historic Wat Phra Phutthabat in Saraburi Province, underscoring their commitment to Buddhist traditions and the royal family’s role in nurturing the religion.
According to Thai News Agency, the royal couple traveled from the Dusit Palace to Saraburi by royal helicopter, accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti, the Prince of Songkla. Upon arrival, they were greeted by local dignitaries, including the Governor of Saraburi Province and heads of government agencies, as well as members of the public who gathered to witness the event.
The ceremony, held at the revered Wat Phra Phutthabat, a first-class royal temple established during the Ayutthaya period, involved a series of traditional rituals. His Majesty the King placed the monk’s robe and other offerings before the principal Buddha image and recited the words of offering the Kathin robe. The ceremo
ny was attended by monks who later received the Kathin robes from Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti.
The event also included an opportunity for the public to donate to the temple’s maintenance, reflecting the royal family’s ongoing support for religious institutions. The abbot of Wat Phra Phutthabat presented the royal family with a gold-plated statue as a token of gratitude.
Before departing, His Majesty the King paid homage at several sacred sites within the temple complex, including the Phra Makutapanthon Chedi and the Buddha’s footprint, continuing a longstanding royal tradition of honoring these important religious landmarks.
