Royal Thai Navy Cancels Rehearsal Amid Sudden Rain Bomb

BANGKOK: The Royal Thai Navy called off its second full-scale rehearsal of the Royal Barge Procession due to unexpected severe weather conditions. The procession, part of preparations for the Kathin Robe Offering Ceremony at Wat Arun Ratchawararam, was disrupted by a sudden rain bomb, forcing the Navy to prioritize safety and halt the practice.

According to Thai News Agency, the rehearsal started as planned from Wasukri Pier. However, during the journey to Wat Arun Ratchawararam, the procession encountered heavy rain and strong winds. Despite prior weather checks indicating no prolonged adverse conditions, the unexpected rain bomb posed significant risks. The wind threatened the control of the fleet, leading the controller to dock all ships and suspend the practice to ensure the safety of the crew and the royal barges. Additionally, the area around Wat Arun Ratchawararam experienced significant rainwater accumulation and flooding, further impacting the rehearsal.

The Royal Thai Navy expressed gratitude to t
he public for their interest and apologized for the disruption. A subsequent training exercise is scheduled for October 24, focusing on four royal barges: Suphannahong Royal Barge, Narai Song Suban Royal Barge of King Rama IX, Ananta Nakarat Royal Barge, and Anekchat Phuchong Royal Barge. This exercise will occur between Wat Rakhang Khositaram Worawihan and Fort Wichaiprasit from 12:00 to 15:00, without personnel in formal dress. The Marine Department will manage water traffic in the Chao Phraya River during this period to minimize disruptions, allowing ferries outside the practice area to operate normally. Members of the public are invited to observe the proceedings.
