Prime Minister Settha Thavisin gave an interview about meeting with Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, a privy councilor and former prime minister, who asked people from the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party to help the prime minister do a good job and also asked if anyone was stubborn, until Mr. Piyabutr Saengkanokkul, secretary-general of the Progressive Movement, came out to say that privy councilors must not show political favoritism. How does the prime minister view this matter? The prime minister asked back, “How do you want me to view it?”
When asked if Gen Prayut’s status was different from before, Mr Settha said that he personally attended his mother’s fu
neral. He had met her on many occasions. When his mother passed away, she came to give him encouragement. He also met people he was familiar with from his eight years as prime minister. He thought that everyone would have their own opinions.
When asked if it seemed like the prime minister was mainly listening to Prayut and Thaksin Shinawatra, former prime ministers, Mr. Settha said that was not true. He met former prime minister Mr. Anand Panyarachun and listened to him. He did not only listen to the prime minister. He met deputy prime ministers or former ministers as well. He met Korn Chatikavanij, former leader of the Chart Pattanakla Party, and the former finance minister. They talked all the time, depending on the opportunity.
Some people have been looking at whether the Prime Minister has distanced himself from Thaksin recently. Mr. Settha “smiled” before saying that he has not distanced himself from anyone. He only works. But if he is working and cannot meet certain people, he believes that everyone w
ill understand that he has a duty as Prime Minister to work and go to the area all the time. You see, even on Saturdays and Sundays, he still works.
