Pathum thani: Following the incident of a 10-year-old girl being electrocuted to death by a hair dryer her mother bought online for just 89 baht, the Deputy Minister of Industry led a crackdown, seizing over 100,000 uncertified electrical appliances from a warehouse in Pathum Thani Province.
According to Thai News Agency, Petty Officer 1st Class Yotsing Liamlert, Deputy Minister of Industry, along with DSI officials and relevant agencies, inspected a warehouse in Khlong Nueng Subdistrict, Khlong Luang District, Pathum Thani Province, for substandard goods. This follows the death of a child who was electrocuted by a hair dryer in Buriram Province. The goods were found to not meet Ministry of Industry standards. The investigation expanded to the warehouse, where they were found to be substandard goods from a neighboring country. However, the origin of the goods is unknown, as they had entered through natural channels.
Initially, over 30,000 hair dryers were seized, along with old products seized around March
2025, including nail dryers and various electrical appliances in the warehouse, approximately 100,000 items.
The warehouse owner revealed that he was merely the lessee and had no involvement with the goods inside, as the lessee was a Thai national and signed a year-to-year lease. He stated that when he signed the contract, he was told that the goods were for sale, but he was unsure of their type and whether they were legitimate. He agreed to allow officials to inspect the property.
In Buriram province, the funeral of 10-year-old Jindamanee, or Nong Petch, was filled with sorrow. Nong Petch died from an electric shock after using a hair dryer without anyone knowing. Another grandchild ran after her, claiming that Nong Petch had been playing with the plug. However, what they saw was Nong Petch already dead, still holding the hair dryer in her hand. The grandmother said that Nong Petch probably finished bathing and wanted to dry her hair, so she went to search in the storage cabinet, plugged it in, and got ele
ctrocuted, resulting in her death.
