Bangkok: Sihasak expressed confidence that Thailand and Cambodia would sign a “Declaration of Thai-Cambodian Relations” on the ASEAN stage, emphasizing plans to withdraw heavy weapons, clear landmines, and suppress scammers, in accordance with four clear Thai conditions. He also assigned the JBC to discuss details of resolving the problems in Ban Nong Chan and Nong Ya Kaeo.
According to Thai News Agency, Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow revealed the signing of the Thai-Cambodian Declaration of Relations to address the Thai-Cambodian border situation at the upcoming ASEAN Summit in Malaysia from October 25-28, 2025. He stated that yesterday, a meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) between Thailand and Cambodia was held. All priorities of Thailand have been resolved and agreements have been reached to some extent, including the withdrawal of heavy weapons, demining, and the crackdown on transnational crime. A step-by-step plan and implementation plan have also been discussed. Further discussions will be held to identify areas of encroachment and address the issues. A resolution should be reached today, as Defense Minister General Nataphol Nakphanit will sign a memorandum summarizing the meeting between the Thai and Cambodian Defense Ministers. Mr. Sihasak also revealed the steps following the signing of the “Declaration of Thai-Cambodian Relations.” He stated that the signing of the Declaration of Relations will include an action plan attached to it, stating that there will be a need for the withdrawal of heavy weapons, the clearance of mines, and the suppression of transnational crime. A clear action plan and timeframe will be provided.
Regarding the resolution of the issues at Ban Nong Ya Kaeo and Ban Nong Chan in Sa Kaeo Province, where Cambodians have encroached on Thai territory, Mr. Sihasak reiterated that the Thai-Cambodian Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) will discuss the details clearly and proceed with the resolution.
