Somsak’ orders ‘Inspectors – Provincial Health Offices’ of Region 1 to cover all areas and speed up assistance for Chiang Mai residents to alleviate the flood crisis. Revealed that an 85-year-old grandmother with heart disease survived and was sent to the hospital for treatment in time.
Ms. Trichada Sritada, the political spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Health, said that after Mr. Somsak Thepsuthin, the Minister of Public Health, was informed of the order from Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister, for all relevant agencies to urgently solve the flooding problem in Chiang Mai and help the people and pets to alleviate their suffering, Mr. Somsak ordered Dr. Sarawut Bunsuk, the Inspector General of the Ministry of Public Health, Health Region 1, to immediately implement the policy.
Ms. Trichata said that the people’s problems have been alleviated somewhat because the Inspector of Health Zone 1 has ordered and closely monitored the work in all aspects, including: 1. Do area mapping of 7 zones
in Chiang Mai, mainly based on the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, set up medical units to provide services in every area as a 1 stop service. 2. Set up mobile emergency service units of the health zone (from every province in the zone) with backups to operate in the area. 3. Review plans and determine the operational points of the medical operation units to proactively go to risk areas and shelters in Chiang Mai province. 4. Publicize warnings of dangers from electric shock, methods of practice and self-protection in all risk areas. 5. Monitor water-borne diseases such as food poisoning, leptospirosis, and provide influenza vaccination services for risk groups and volunteers.
However, there was a report of 1 additional death in San Pa Tong district from drowning, making the total number of deaths 3, 1 missing person, and 10 additional injuries, divided into 1 in Chiang Mai and 9 in Lop Buri, for a total of 14 injuries, all minor injuries. Affected service facilities include 7 places, 2 sub
-district health offices (closed), 8 sub-district health promotion hospitals (closed), 4 hospitals (closed), 42 shelters in Mueang and Mae Rim districts, and 16 mobile medical teams working in the area in Chiang Mai province.
Ms. Trichata said that the report found that the water level was still high. The most affected areas were Mueang, San Pa Tong, Hang Dong, and Saraphi districts. There were 7 patients transferred from private hospitals and 41 vulnerable people were transferred out of the area. Most recently, the emergency medical team of Nakhon Ping Hospital, together with the Ruam Jai Rescue Foundation and the Royal Thai Army, used flat-bottomed boats and high-lift trucks to pick up an 85-year-old grandmother with heart disease who was having difficulty breathing and was stuck in a house in the Ban Den Health Park area, Wat Ket Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chiang Mai Province. She was sick and not bedridden. She could walk, but her body was weak and she lived alone in the house. The water level was hig
h and her relatives could not pick her up. The grandmother was taken to the hospital for treatment. The evacuated patients from Rajavej Hospital, drowning post-arrest, and the fast-track stroke patients from Nong Hoi Housing were sent to Nakhon Ping Hospital for further treatment.
