Special Committee Urges Senate to Expedite Clean Air Act Approval

Bangkok: The special committee has expressed gratitude to the House for passing the Clean Air Act in its third reading and has urged the Senate to accept the bill’s principle. They highlighted the urgency of the bill’s implementation, especially with the PM2.5 dust crisis approaching in December, emphasizing that MPs thoroughly considered the bill with a focus on providing clean air benefits to the public.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chakrapol Tangsutthitham, Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Special Committee on the Clean Air Act, led the committee in a statement following the bill’s passage. He noted the significance of establishing a law to combat PM 2.5 and outlined the next steps involving Senate consideration. The Senate is expected to establish the committee on October 27-28 before the session ends, with expedited consideration planned during the November recess. Mr. Chakrapol expressed optimism that the Senate would approve the bill, which MPs have already accepted in principle.

He thanked all committee members for their long-term dedication, noting the extensive work carried out over two House of Representatives terms, involving 11 full chamber meetings and over 400 subcommittee sessions. If the Senate approves the bill in time for the peak PM 2.5 dust level in December’s fourth quarter, Mr. Chakrapol urged the Senate to ensure the bill addresses all pollution sources and relevant factors. He hopes the Senate will uphold the principles to effectively combat air pollution, focus on critical issues, and ensure sustainable management, benefiting the Thai population with cleaner air.
