Minister of Youth and Sports, Zainudin Amali, has said that he will urge ministries to accelerate infrastructure development for supporting the implementation of the 2024 PON Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week.
“We will motivate the relevant ministries, especially those that handle infrastructure such as the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, so that facilities and infrastructure can be built immediately,” he informed during a working visit to Banda Aceh, Aceh, on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing will oversee infrastructure development for the 2024 PON Aceh-North Sumatra, while the implementation of events and activities will be under the purview of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, he informed.
“The point is that we are committed to supporting and succeeding PON Aceh-North Sumatra. I would urge the relevant ministries to pay attention to Aceh,” he said.
According to Amali, the ministry will also hold a joint meeting for discussing infrastructure development for supporting PON Aceh-Sumatra.
Amali also advised the Aceh government on the construction of sports facilities so they could be integrated and be used sustainably.
“The planning must be done carefully so the sports facilities can be utilized continuously and provide other economic impacts,” he said.
Furthermore, Amali also stressed that the sports facilities that are built not be allowed to be abandoned as that will put a strain on the local government’s budget.
During the working visit to Aceh, Amali was accompanied by vice chairman of Commission X of the House of Representatives, Abdul Fikri Faqih.
Faqih said that his team is committed to supporting and overseeing infrastructure development and the implementation of 2024 PON Aceh-North Sumatra.
“We will continue to monitor it and we are very confident that PON Aceh-North Sumatra will be successful,” Faqih remarked.
The 2024 PON Aceh-North Sumatra will be the first National Sports Week to be held in two provinces, Amali noted.
