SRT opens steam locomotive service


The State Railway of Thailand opens a historic steam locomotive procession to honor His Majesty the King on the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King’s 72nd Birthday Anniversary on July 28, 2024.

The people of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province were excited after seeing the special steam locomotive train taking a historical tour in honor of His Majesty the King, which the State Railway of Thailand organized. The special steam locomotive train departed from Bangkok Station (Hua Lamphong) at 8:00 a.m. and arrived at Ayutthaya Station at 1:00 p.m. on the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King’s 72nd Birthday Anniversary on July 28, 2024, to express their loyalty and gratitude for His Majesty’s various royal duties for the benefit of the people.

On this occasion, the State Railway of Thailand has opened for the public to join in commemorating His Majesty’s great kindness towards the Thai people by joining in a journey through the historical Pacific steam locomotive train, Bangkok Station (Hua Lamphon
g)-Ayutthaya-Bangkok, Train No. 901/902, with Pacific steam locomotives No. 824 and 850, post-World War II models, manufactured by Nippon Charyo, which began use in 1949. They are currently kept and maintained at the Thonburi Locomotive Depot and will be used for tourist trains on only 6 important days.
