Student Loan Fund Secures Over 8 Billion Baht for Second Loan Allocation

Bangkok: The Student Loan Fund (SLF) is prepared to disburse a second round of loans in 2025, following the Cabinet's approval of an 8.488 billion baht economic stimulus budget.

According to Thai News Agency, the SLF announced its receipt of the 8.488 billion baht budget allocation as part of the economic stimulus project proposals under the broader 157 billion baht economic stimulus plan, which the Cabinet approved on August 5, 2025. This funding is intended to support loan allocations for the 2025 academic year, covering tuition, living expenses, and education-related costs for both existing and new student borrowers who meet the SLF's criteria. The primary goal is to ensure students can continue their education without interruptions, thereby reducing the likelihood of them taking breaks or dropping out. Additionally, by enabling student spending, the loans are expected to stimulate the economy in areas surrounding educational institutions.

Educational institutions are anticipated to utilize the tuition fees for hiring educational personnel and purchasing teaching materials and equipment, thus boosting local economic consumption. The SLF plans to expedite loan disbursements in alignment with the government's policy of using education as a tool for human capital development and economic growth.

The SLF has also extended its loan system for the 2025 academic year to assist students and educational institutions affected by unrest in the Thai-Cambodian border area. This initiative is designed to provide relief and ensure continued access to educational opportunities.
