Bangkok – A recent study by Telenor Asia has revealed that Thais are increasingly using mobile devices to manage living costs and generate revenue, with a growing interest in generative artificial intelligence (AI). The study, titled “Digital Lives Decoded,” surveyed 8,087 respondents across South and Southeast Asia, including 1,000 from Thailand, in August.
According to Vietnam News Agency, Thai respondents showed less concern about security compared to their regional counterparts. Petter-Børre Furberg, executive vice-president and head of Telenor Asia, highlighted Thailand’s robust mobile network and affordable prices as key factors behind this trend. The study found that 83% of Thai respondents expect to use mobile phone services more in the next 1-2 years. Additionally, 93% use their phones for managing finances, 74% for price comparison, 64% for finding the best deals, and 49% for tracking spending.
Despite their reliance on mobile devices, Thais showed the least concern for privacy and security on their phones. Only 21% of Thai respondents indicated concerns, compared to the regional average of 8%. Furberg noted that while Thais are aware of online scams, fake news, and cyberbullying, they seem more accepting of the drawbacks of technology.
