Personality and competency assessments will serve as the basis for screening candidates applying for the post of justice of the Supreme Court, Head of the judge recruitment department of the Judicial Commission Siti Nurdjanah said.
In a written statement issued in Jakarta on Thursday, she said that the competency assessment will measure 12 competencies, including personal integrity, professionalism, self-management, cooperation capability, effective communication, and organizational skills, she informed.
They will further measure leadership skills, global comprehension, legal technical knowledge, case management, legal analysis and judiciary verdict drafting, and nationalism and statesmanship values, the department head added.
The commission has invited assessors from a psychology background, as well as substantive assessors comprising supreme justices delegated by the Supreme Court, former supreme justices, and legal experts to screen the candidates, Nurdjanah said.
Professors in legal studies have been asked to conduct interviews to enhance the assessment, she added.
At present, around 55 supreme justice candidates have undergone personality and competency assessments, she disclosed.
Of the 55 candidates, 36 candidates have applied for the criminal chamber, 8 for the state administrative chamber on tax speciality, 6 for the religious chamber, and 5 for the civil chamber, she said.
“Of the 55 supreme justice candidates, 43 candidates are career judges, while 12 are not career judges,” Nurdjanah added.
She further said that the assessment, which is being conducted from March 1–11, 2022, is taking place virtually just like in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Candidates will be also divided into several virtual classes, and they will undergo simulation as supreme justice,” the department head added.
