President Joko Widodo expects the Supreme Court to make efforts to cut down legal obstacles as a means of encouraging economic development.
The head of state delivered the statement during the 2021 Supreme Court Annual Report’s Special Session, broadcast virtually from the Jakarta Presidential Palace on Tuesday.
The head of state remarked that these strategic efforts could be conducted by expediting the case-handling methods, among others.
“This includes expediting the handling of cases through a simple lawsuit mechanism, encouraging consistency of decisions, and reforming the implementation of decisions,” he explained.
The government also believed that effective law enforcement by the Supreme Court could contribute to favorable outcomes, such as the realization of prosperity and social stability, democratic system enhancement, and pushing transformation geared towards Indonesia’s advancements.
He lauded the court for working hard to improve the law of the state.
“Thank you to the Supreme Court for working hard to encourage the development of a modern court and transforming it from a conventional justice system to a more modern justice system to push the transformation of law in Indonesia,” he stated.
Chief of Supreme Court Muhammad Syarifuddin stated in his report that in 2021, they had handled 19,408 cases, of which 19,233 were concluded, while the remaining 175 cases were still in the judicial process.
“The number of remaining cases is the lowest ever achieved in the history of the Supreme Court,” he recalled.
Based on the case settlement data, the productivity ratio of the 2021 Supreme Court ruling reached 99.10 percent or exceeded the 70-percent target set out in the Supreme Court’s Main Performance Indicators.
