Bangkok: Pheu Thai MP Surapong has expressed skepticism over Kanchanaburi MP Sakda’s assertion that he has the backing of 10 MPs following his announcement of joining the Bhumjaithai Party.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Transport Minister Surapong Piyachote disclosed before a special cabinet meeting that Sakda Wichiensin, a Pheu Thai Party MP for Kanchanaburi, was present at a Bhumjaithai Party press conference. Surapong confirmed that while Sakda has shifted allegiance, all other Kanchanaburi MPs remain committed to Pheu Thai. He questioned Sakda’s claim of having the support of more than 10 MPs, suggesting that the support might come from MPs in other provinces rather than Kanchanaburi. Surapong also noted that previous reports regarding the distribution of MPs among parties have been ambiguous.
When a reporter inquired if he believed Sakda truly had the backing of more than 10 MPs in his electoral college, Surapong stated that, in his opinion, it seemed improbable.
