Bangkok: “Suriya” is confident that Pheu Thai will be able to retain its original MP seat in Sisaket. Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, expressed confidence in the Pheu Thai Party’s ability to maintain its MP seat in Sisaket, emphasizing policies that benefit the area. He also mentioned that their legal team is reviewing campaign speeches after allegations of “selling the nation” were made against them.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suriya, a leader of the Pheu Thai Party, discussed the ongoing campaign for the by-election in Si Sa Ket Province, Constituency 5. He highlighted the involvement of key party figures, including Mrs. Manoporn Charoensri, Deputy Minister of Transport and MP of Nakhon Phanom Province, and Mr. Somsak Thepsuthin, Minister of Public Health, who are actively campaigning in the area. Mr. Suriya noted that he is evaluating his schedule to determine his participation in the campaign.
Uncertainty remains regarding the involvement of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and Pheu Thai Party leader Paethongtarn Shinawatra in the campaign. There is no indication that the campaign speeches will address the contentious border area between Thailand and Cambodia.
Addressing concerns about the use of the term ‘treason’ by some political parties in their campaign speeches, Mr. Suriya stated that he is focusing on communicating the benefits of Pheu Thai Party’s policies and their potential impact on the development of Si Sa Ket Province. He emphasized that his speeches will not touch upon the Thai-Cambodian border issue. The Pheu Thai Party is currently transcribing and reviewing campaign speeches for any potential legal issues arising from damaging statements. The party’s legal team will assess the seriousness of the term ‘treason’. Mr. Suriya remains confident in retaining the area, noting that the Pheu Thai Party previously won 7 out of 9 MP seats in Si Sa Ket Province.
