Suspicious Object Near ICON Group Office Deemed Non-Explosive by Bangkok Police


Bangkok: A suspicious object reported in front of the ICON Group’s office in Bangkok has been declared safe after thorough examination by Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers, according to the local police.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident began when Bang Khen Police Station received a report about a suspicious object located in front of the guardhouse on Soi Ram Intra 9, Ram Intra Road, Anusawari Subdistrict, in the Bang Khen District, where The Icon Group Company Limited is situated. Police officers responded promptly, discovering a black plastic handbag containing three brown paper sticks wrapped in electrical wires and placed inside a box.

In response, police placed two tires over the object and cordoned off the area. They collaborated with the investigation officers at Bang Khen Police Station and EOD officers to examine the object further. Pol. Col. Anan Worasart, Superintendent of Bang Khen Police Station, later informed the media that EOD specialists used X-ray equipment to investig
ate the contents of the bag, which were found to include five PVC pipes wrapped in paper, a clock, and a circuit board. However, no gunpowder or explosive chemicals were present, and the items could not be assembled into a functioning bomb.

The objects were collected as evidence and are currently held at Bang Khen Police Station for a detailed examination. Additionally, authorities plan to review CCTV footage to identify any suspects and determine their motives. Pol. Col. Anan mentioned that it is too early to confirm if the incident is related to any ongoing cases involving The Icon Group.

The security officer in charge during the incident explained that similar boxes had frequently been found on the property, typically used for storing tools. The discovery of the suspicious object occurred when a maid, intending to repair her shoes, found the items inside a box she had moved in front of the project’s bathroom for safety reasons.

The police are continuing their investigation to ascertain whether this was
a genuine threat or merely a hoax. The presence of unknown individuals in the area is not unusual, given the high traffic of employees, clients, and delivery personnel associated with the various companies within the project.
