Bangkok: TAT, together with partners, launched the project ‘Train Journey to the Southern Soul: Taste + Rail, Food Route, Happiness in the South,’ inviting people to experience the charm of the South with 9 flavors and 9 routes of southern railway lines.
According to Thai News Agency, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has collaborated with the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), KTC or Krungthai Card Public Company Limited, Bangkok Airways, Thailand Gastronomy (Thailand Food Culture Network), and other partners to present this unique travel initiative. The project aims to provide tourists with an immersive experience of the South through train travel that highlights 9 distinct flavors of Thai cuisine, creating a deeper connection with local culture and lifestyles.
Mr. Apichai Chatchalermkij, TAT Deputy Governor for Domestic Marketing, emphasized that the initiative seeks to promote sustainable and balanced tourism growth by encouraging train travel. The project connects people with the culture and resources of the South, offering a model of travel that integrates taste, culture, and lifestyle.
Mrs. Supamas Pleumkusol from the SRT highlighted that the Thai rail system is evolving to connect not only cities but also local lifestyles. The SRT is committed to enhancing routes and travel experiences to support sustainable travel, aiming to create compelling travel stories that encourage repeat visits.
Mrs. Marisa Sukosol Noonpakdee, from the National Soft Power Development Committee, pointed out that food acts as a bridge connecting people with places. The project combines the allure of train travel with culinary delights, presenting a rich cultural narrative through the 9 routes.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Juthamas Wisansingh from Thailand Gastronomy Network stated that the railway signifies a way of life, with food being a cultural expression. The initiative uses the southern railway route to narrate Thailand’s travel story through 9 flavors of Thai cuisine.
Ms. Plearnpis Kosolutasarn of Bangkok Airways noted that the project reinforces the idea of Seamless Connectivity, offering services to major cities and tourist spots in the South, thus enhancing travel convenience and destination access.
Ms. Warittha Pattanarat from KTC highlighted the importance of supporting economic growth through tourism. The project aims to provide KTC members with a new travel experience, promoting in-depth tourism in the South and fostering valuable spending along the route.
