Thai Border Trade and Cross-Border Trade Expand by 10.7% in Early 2025

Bangkok: Thai border trade and cross-border trade experienced significant growth in the first four months of 2025, with a 10.7% increase in total trade value.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Arada Fuangthong, the Director-General of the Department of Foreign Trade, reported that border and cross-border trade in April 2025 alone reached a total value of 165,555 million baht, marking an 8.7% expansion compared to the same period last year.

The trade consisted of exports amounting to 96,854 million baht, reflecting a 4.7% rise, and imports totaling 68,701 million baht, showing a 14.9% increase. Consequently, Thailand achieved a trade surplus of 28,153 million baht in April 2025. Cumulatively, from January to April 2025, the total trade value reached 632,397 million baht, with exports at 352,678 million baht (a 7.9% increase) and imports at 279,719 million baht (a 13.1% increase), resulting in a trade surplus of 72,959 million baht.

Trade with neighboring countries showed varied results, with Malaysia having the highest border trade value of 25,123 million baht, followed by Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Cambodia. Notable export products during this period included diesel, other finished oils, and beverages like UHT milk and soy milk.

Cross-border trade with third countries also saw growth, with a total trade value of 84,493 million baht in April 2025, expanding by 11.1%. Exports accounted for 47,705 million baht, and imports were 36,788 million baht. China led in terms of trade value, followed by Singapore and Vietnam. Key export items included fresh durian, hard disk drives, and TSNR rubber blocks. The cumulative cross-border trade value for the first four months of 2025 was 288,365 million baht, with exports and imports both showing robust growth.

The Director-General highlighted the continued expansion of electronic product exports, including hard disk drives, computers, and electrical circuit boards, alongside significant growth in rubber product exports. Additionally, a substantial volume of fresh durian was exported, primarily to China, contributing significantly to the trade figures.
