UDON THANI: Pol. Gen. Permpoon Chidchob, Thailand’s Minister of Education, expressed his deep condolences over the tragic death of a Mathayom 6 student who succumbed to a chronic disease after participating in a sports event. The incident occurred during the Local Administrative Organization of Thailand Student Sports Competition in the Northeastern Region.

According to Thai News Agency, the student’s death was not related to any mishap at the educational institution itself but occurred during an external event. Minister Chidchob emphasized that while educational activities are crucial for development, the safety and health of students must always be prioritized. He stated that the ministry is committed to supporting the bereaved family and ensuring that all school activities are conducted safely under strict guidelines.

The minister stressed the importance of educational institutes nationwide maintaining high safety standards and having effective incident response strategies. He highlighted the role of tea
chers in monitoring students with known health issues, suggesting that alternative activities should be devised for such students to minimize health risks.

Furthermore, Chidchob pointed out the need for improved coordination between parents and schools to manage students’ chronic health conditions effectively. This coordination is vital for the timely implementation of emergency measures when needed.

He concluded by calling for collective responsibility amongst various stakeholders, including educational bodies and safety agencies, to ensure the well-being of all students. This collaborative approach, he noted, is essential for fostering an environment where students can learn happily and safely, ultimately contributing to the nation’s future.
