Bangkok: Thai people have the opportunity to pay homage to the “Glass Tooth Relic” for the first time in 22 years after Thailand and China agreed to invite it from Beijing for Thai people to pay homage at Sanam Luang for 73 days, starting from December 4 until February 14 next year. Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, spokesman of the Prime Minister’s Office, revealed that today’s cabinet meeting acknowledged the case where the Thai government and the People’s Republic of China agreed to invite the Buddha’s relics (the Glass Tooth Relic) from the Lingguang Temple in Beijing, the People’s Republic of China, to be temporarily enshrined in Bangkok to honor His Majesty the King on the occasion of His Majesty’s 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary on July 28, 2024, and on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China in 2025. It will be open for the public to pay homage between December 4, 2024, and February 14, 2025, for a period of 73 days at Sanam Luang and will be invi
ted back to China on February 15, 2025.
According to Thai News Agency, in the past, the Chinese government had allowed the enshrining of the Buddha’s relics (the crystal tooth relic) in Thailand for the first time in 2002 at Phutthamonthon during the reign of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, which was one of the six times that it was enshrined outside of China. This time, it is considered a great blessing for Buddhists, both Thais and Chinese in Thailand, who have the opportunity to pay homage without having to travel to Beijing, China.
Mr. Jirayu said that inviting the relics of the Buddha (the crystal tooth relic) to be enshrined in Thailand this time will continue the long-standing friendship between Thailand and China through the Buddhist relationship and push for the creation of a community with a shared future between Thailand and China, and make the saying “China and Thailand are not far away, we are brothers and sisters” even more deeply rooted in the hearts of the people of both count
ries.
The government has organized a ceremony to worship and construct a pavilion to enshrine the Buddha’s tooth relic tomorrow, Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Sanam Luang, chaired by Mr. Chusak Sirinil, Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office.
