Bangkok: Advisor to the Royal Thai Police’s Crime Suppression Division emphasized the meticulous and transparent approach police are taking in handling the high-profile “The Icon” case, which involves accusations of business malpractice. The advisor also voiced strong support for maximum statutory penalties to bolster public trust.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Noppadol Karnnika, an advisor to the Technology Crime Suppression Center (TCSD) and former expert committee member of the National Police Policy, said that the Prime Minister, Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, is taking a keen interest in the ongoing investigation of The iCon Group. The group is under scrutiny for allegedly operating without a proper license. Pol. Gen. Kittiratt Panpetch, the Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, has tasked Pol. Lt. Gen. Akkaradej Pimolsri, the Assistant Commissioner-General, with overseeing the case to ensure justice and support for the victims.
The police have instituted an online complaint system and are
actively collecting evidence and cataloging infringed assets. Mr. Noppadol highlighted the importance of using scientific evidence and digital trace technology in the investigations, especially in cases involving high-ranking individuals, to ensure fair and transparent proceedings.
Furthermore, Mr. Noppadol noted that the scope of the investigation has been widened to include examining the responsibility of officers who may have failed in their duties, thereby potentially harming the public. Strict disciplinary and legal actions are promised for any misconduct uncovered.
The advisor also emphasized the commitment of Thai police to operate with fairness and responsibility, protecting the rights and welfare of all involved parties. He urged the public to trust the police process, free from the bias of social media pressures, allowing the authorities to conduct thorough and unbiased investigations.
