Bangkok, Thailand – Thailand is vigorously advancing its smart city initiative, focusing on enhancing digital capabilities and improving urban life quality towards a sustainable future. This announcement was made by Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Phumtham Wechayachai at the Thailand Smart City Expo 2023. He stated that this effort is part of the country’s national agenda, with the government strategically employing technology to foster sustainable economic growth, resilient urban development, and adaptability to changing environments.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the event’s organizer, the expo offers a platform for city administrators, project managers, technology companies, and distributors to engage and explore innovative technologies. As of July, this year, Thailand has officially recognized 36 cities across 25 provinces as smart cities, with plans to expand this list. The move aligns with the government’s commitment to regional growth and urban development. Additionally, the Thai Department of Economic and Social Affairs has proposed incentives to support this initiative, including a 50% reduction in corporate taxes for three years for businesses participating in the development of smart cities across the nation.
