Bangkok: A government spokesman has emphasized Thailand’s strict measures to control drone activity, particularly in sensitive border regions, countering accusations from Lt. Gen. Malee of Cambodian defense forces. The Royal Thai Army has instructed 20 provinces to treat any unauthorized drone activity with utmost seriousness.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office and member of the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation Administration (TCASA), highlighted that the Thai government has warned Cambodian forces of immediate destruction of any drones infringing on Thai sovereignty. The Royal Thai Army and security forces have intensified anti-drone measures, ensuring a robust defense against unauthorized incursions.
Recently, Lt. Gen. Boonsin Phadklang, Commander of the Second Army Region, convened with governors from 20 northeastern provinces to reinforce anti-drone strategies, especially around critical infrastructure such as provincial halls, armories, and airports. He mandated collaboration between local authorities, police, and the public, alongside the establishment of patrol teams to monitor suspicious activities. Legal actions, including severe penalties, are set for those engaged in potential terrorist or espionage activities.
Clear instructions have been issued for legal proceedings against both Thai and foreign offenders, with deportation and blacklisting from Thailand as additional consequences for foreigners. The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand also announced a nationwide flight ban from July 30, 2025, to August 15, 2025, exempting only security agencies, to enhance national security.
Mr. Jirayu addressed Lt. Gen. Malee Socheata’s deflection of accusations regarding Thai drones in Cambodian airspace, clarifying Thailand’s commitment to respecting the sovereignty of neighboring countries. He noted the obsolescence of drones for such purposes due to advancements in technology.
In light of the delicate situation along the Thai-Cambodian border, Mr. Jirayu reiterated Thailand’s dedication to maintaining peace and order, while respecting international sovereignty. The discovery and safe disposal of artillery and explosives within Thai territory was conducted with prior notification to Cambodia to mitigate misunderstandings.
The Thai government calls on Cambodia to engage in open communication, avoid spreading misinformation, and work collaboratively towards resolving border issues for the shared benefit of both nations’ citizens.
