Thawee Confident in 14th Floor Case Consideration This Friday

Bangkok: Pol. Col. Thawee Sodsong, Minister of Justice, has expressed confidence that the case concerning the 14th floor of the Police General Hospital will proceed as scheduled this Friday. The Ministry of Justice is prepared to present their explanation before the court, which Thawee sees as a positive opportunity to clarify the situation. He assured that the case will not impact the government’s stability.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Col. Thawee elaborated on the progress of the case, which is set for trial on 13 June. He mentioned that the Ministry of Justice will be represented by two units: the Bangkok Special Prison and the Director-General of the Department of Corrections. Thawee has communicated with both units and expressed confidence in their adherence to legal duties. He highlighted the importance of following the Corrections Act and the Criminal Procedure Code, which are central to Thai law. Thawee noted that if specific laws fail to protect the rights of prisoners or their relatives, general laws would be invoked, necessitating court authority. The Department of Corrections, in coordination with Section 246 of the Corrections Act, has a precedent from the Supreme Court to guide them.

When questioned about potential concerns regarding the trial’s outcome, Pol. Col. Thawee emphasized the importance of respecting court decisions. He noted that both he and the agency remain unperturbed, given their extensive experience of over a century in handling similar matters.
