‘The 50th ASEAN-Japan Business Meeting’ (AJBM) 6-8 Nov. 2024

The Board of Trade of Thailand-Japan Business Leaders Association (Keizai Doyukai) organized ‘The 50th ASEAN-Japan Business Meeting’ on Nov 6-8, 2024 to drive the Thai, Japanese and ASEAN economies.

Mr. Kalin Sarasin, Honorary Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, revealed that the Board of Trade of Thailand, in collaboration with Keizai Doyukai (Japan Business Leaders Association), are scheduled to organize ‘The 50th ASEAN-Japan Business Meeting’ (AJBM) from 6-8 November 2024 at The Okura Prestige Hotel, Bangkok. It is an important forum for business leaders from ASEAN countries and Japan to discuss and exchange ideas on economy, trade, investment, and develop cooperation in various important areas. This meeting was initiated 50 years ago in 1974 in Tokyo, Japan, initiated by Keizai Doyukai, and has played an important role in promoting security and development in the East Asian region through economic exchanges between the private sector. The AJBM is organized annually,
rotating among member countries. Examples of the AJBM’s success in promoting and driving economic cooperation include: Between ASEAN and Japan over the past 49 years, such as trade and investment promotion: economic cooperation through the AJCEP (ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership) agreement helps reduce tariffs and promote growth in the region, infrastructure development: supporting investment in transportation, energy and digital connectivity, SME business support: promoting small and medium-sized enterprises through finance and consulting, and human resource development: enhancing the capacity of the workforce in technology and management.

This AJBM meeting in Thailand will help continue the success to create cooperation and jointly drive the economy of ASEAN and Japan to move forward steadily and sustainably. On November 7, there will be a full-day seminar and on November 8, there will be a Thai Tourism Showcase activity where international participants will have the opportunity to travel and
experience Thai culture.

Dr. Wisit Limlurcha, Vice Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, said that on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of AJBM, it was organized under the theme ‘Building Resilient Partnerships for Sustainable Futures’, which means building strong and sustainable partnerships for a better future, reflecting the cooperation and partnership between ASEAN and Japan over the past five decades. Key issues such as food security, mobility and tourism will be discussed.

Mr. Kasemsit Pathomsak, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trade of Thailand, added that The 50th ASEAN-Japan Business Meeting (AJBM) emphasizes the participation of participants in exchanging ideas with speakers, which will be very beneficial for further development of ideas and networking among the business sector, government sector, academics, and civil society organizations. After the meeting, a Whitepaper will be prepared, a document compiling key points and suggestions from the meeting for seminar participants to use, includ
ing for the government and related agencies to consider and implement, which will help create a working link between the private and public sectors, leading to effective policy implementation, and creating an environment conducive to investment in the region.
