The Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army visits personnel working to restore disaster-stricken areas in Chiang Rai.


The Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army visited Chiang Rai to visit personnel who have been continuously working to restore flood-stricken areas and provided financial assistance to personnel affected by the disaster at Camp Mengrai Maharat.

General Pana Klaewplodtook, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army, led the army commanders to visit and encourage the personnel who are helping people in the flood-affected areas in Chiang Rai Province. They rushed to help people immediately after the incident since 9 September 2014. Both the personnel from the local military units and additional personnel from the 3rd Army Area and the Department of Military Engineering brought various tools and equipment to support the assistance, totaling more than 600 personnel. The Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army met and gave encouragement and closely monitored the work of the personnel in various areas, including the recovery and repair of people’s houses in the Mueang Daeng and Ban Mai Lung Khan communities (S
oi A-Kho), the recovery and repair of Ban Mai Lung Khan School, the installation of big bags to repair the damaged Mae Sai flood barrier to prevent further flooding, and the establishment of a water supply point for the public service field in the Koh Sai community. He also had lunch with the personnel working in the area and encouraged the people who helped restore their houses before traveling to inspect and visit the homes of the personnel who were also affected by the flood in the Meng Rai Maharat Camp area. Ready to provide financial assistance to boost morale and encouragement for military personnel and their families.

And currently, as the government has established the Operation Center for Flood, Storm and Landslide Relief (OCRR) for Forward Operations or OCRR for Forward Operations as a command center and joint integration of various sectors in resolving the situation, the Royal Thai Army has established the Forward Disaster Relief Center to jointly monitor the work and coordinate such operations by
using the potential of personnel, tools and equipment of military units, especially the engineering team, together with the Royal Volunteer Command Center, the Royal Volunteer Command Center Region 3 and various government agencies to alleviate the suffering and restore the area for the people as assigned by the Forward Operation Center, both by accelerating the restoration of the water supply system and sending field water supply units to distribute water to the affected people, totaling 3 locations, which will currently continue to operate continuously until the water supply system in the area can be used normally, and restoring people’s houses. Especially vulnerable groups and the elderly, a total of 48 houses, 100% completed, including assistance in restoring houses where the owners can help themselves, a total of 6,980 houses, 6,289 houses completed, 691 houses remaining, as well as restoring community areas, buildings, and various travel routes, both main and secondary, 24 routes, a distance of 10.15 ki
lometers.

On this occasion, the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army gave encouragement to the personnel working in the area, thanking them for all their efforts to take care of the people, alleviate the disaster, and resolve the various situations that have occurred throughout the period since the incident, even though he and his family have also been affected. The Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army has been informed and has been following up on the operations continuously. He asked all units that have been assigned missions this time to quickly restore the area and complete the operations as soon as possible to return the area to normal life for the people. At the same time, he emphasized the importance of working safely because the area is at risk from debris from damaged houses or objects floating in the water mass.
