The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation sends officials with forklifts and flat-bottomed boats to help flooded areas in Chiang Mai.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation sent additional officers, along with 8 flat-bottomed boats and high-lift trucks, to help flooded areas in Chiang Mai Province. They are expected to arrive in Chiang Mai this evening (Oct 5).

Mr. Chaiwat Junthiraphong, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), revealed that he is monitoring the flood situation in many areas of Chiang Mai Province. Currently, in some areas of Chiang Mai City, the water level is still stable, while in some areas, the water level is rising.

Information from the Chiang Mai Irrigation Department stated that the highest water level has passed the city, but it is predicted that late tonight (October 5), water from above will flow down through Chiang Mai city again, which may cause the water level to rise again before dropping in the next period. In order to speed up the assistance for the victims and drain the water, especially in the downstream areas of Chiang Mai, the Department of Disast
er Prevention and Mitigation has sent additional officers, along with 8 more flat-bottomed boats and high-lift trucks to transport the victims from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Region 6 Center to help the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation team in Chiang Mai. They have been deployed to Chiang Mai since this morning and are expected to arrive in Chiang Mai this evening.

To solve the problem and help the people affected by the flood in Chiang Mai, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has sent an operational team with various disaster relief machinery, such as a disaster relief vehicle, a long-distance water pump, and a flat-bottomed boat, to continuously support the flood relief in the northern region. In Chiang Mai, there are currently DDPM teams from 5 regional DDPM centers: DDPM Center Region 10 in Lampang, DDPM Center Region 8 in Kamphaeng Phet, DDPM Center Region 6 in Khon Kaen, DDPM Center Region 2 in Suphan Buri, and DDPM Center Region 15 in Chiang R
ai, working together with the Chiang Mai Incident Command Center to support the solving of the problem and help the people affected by the flood in Chiang Mai and the downstream area, which is the border of Lamphun Province.

“Currently, the DDPM team working in Chiang Mai is rushing to help people in the disaster area as much as possible. Most recently, the DDPM Region 6 Center in Khon Kaen has brought in vehicles to move victims out of their homes to help the elderly and the sick to safety and has assessed the evacuation of victims in the alley next to Lanna Hospital, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai Province. We have emphasized that all officers must work to the best of their abilities, together with relevant agencies in the area, to help and care for the people,” said the DDPM Director-General.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation will closely monitor the situation, continuously report incidents, and provide assistance to the public with full force until the situation improves. The
public can follow the warning announcements via the “Thai Disaster Alert” application on both IOS and Android systems. If they are affected by flooding, they can report the incident and request assistance via the “DDPM 1784 Disaster Reporting” Line by adding the Line ID @1784DDPM and the 1784 Disaster Hotline 24 hours a day.
