The Department of Livestock warns farmers to be prepared for flooding.

Bangkok, ‘Minister Thammanat’ ordered the Department of Livestock Development to help farmers who are affected by the floods with full force. The Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development suggested 4 measures to prepare for dealing with the floods. Most recently, officials were sent to help move 8,000 piglets out of a farm in Trat Province. In the flood-affected area in Maha Sarakham Province, officials have delivered animal feed supplies, ‘Royal Animal Feed Grass’.

Veterinarian Somchuan Rattanamangkalanon, Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development, said that he has issued recommendations to livestock farmers to prepare for possible flooding as follows:

1. Prepare and stock up on sufficient animal food.

2. Closely monitor the water situation.

3. Contact the District Livestock Office to request an update on the farmer registration to keep the information current.

4. Jointly set up an animal evacuation point near your home.

5. Coordinate for assistance in case of disas

In this regard, Colonel Thammanat Prompao, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, ordered the Department of Livestock Development to provide full assistance to farmers affected by the flood. Recently, heavy rain in Trat Province caused flooding at a pig farm in Village No. 4, Saen Tung Subdistrict, Khao Saming District. Trat Animal Quarantine Station, Trat Animal Quarantine Station and Trat Provincial Livestock Office, together with Trat provincial administration officials, Khao Saming District Chief, Trat Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, military officers from the 19th Army Circle, the Chanthaburi-Trat Marine Corps Unit, volunteers, village headmen and village headmen of Ban Thang Kwai, helped move pigs from a farm named Narongsak Apiwat, Chatchai, Linda Farm, which has 8 pig houses and 8,000 pigs, to the Chamreang and Surapol Farms in the same village, but located on higher ground. The pigs on the
farm that were flooded were piglets aged 6-12 weeks, with approximately 5-10 percent dying. The move is expected to be completed around 10:00 p.m. tonight.

In Nong Saeng Subdistrict, Wapi Pathum District, Maha Sarakham Province, which was affected by the collapse of the Huai Chiang Kham Reservoir Dam, causing flooding, the Animal Feed Development Office and agencies under the Department of Livestock Development in Maha Sarakham Province delivered 4,000 kilograms of ‘Royal Animal Feed Grass’ to help 230 farmer households, consisting of 580 cows and 70 buffalo. Currently, the water is flooded and waiting to be drained, with no place to release the animals. Villagers have gathered their animals to higher ground. Local agencies are monitoring and communicating with local leaders continuously.

The Livestock Disaster Prevention and Resolution Center reported the latest assistance for those affected by livestock disasters: 2 provinces were affected: Maha Sarakham and Trat, with 3 districts, 11 sub-districts, 63 vi
llages, 4,528 farmers, and 160,206 animals affected: 20,236 cows, 2,306 buffalo, 11,783 pigs, 62 goats/sheep, and 125,819 poultry.

For immediate assistance, the following are provided:

1. Delivery of 13,000 kilograms of animal feed plants

2. Help evacuate 10,291 animals.
