The Ministry of Higher Education joins forces to open a frontline coordination center to help flood victims in Chiang Mai.


Supamas” is concerned about flooding in the North, assigning Rajamangala Universities nationwide to join hands with Chiang Mai Municipality, the National Disaster Response Association and network partners to open a frontline coordination center to help flood victims in Chiang Mai Province.

Ms. Supamas Isaraphakdi, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), revealed that the flood situation in Chiang Mai Province has affected the people of Chiang Mai in many areas. The MHESI, through the 9 Rajamangala Universities of Technology (RMUTS) nationwide, has collaborated with Chiang Mai Municipality, Green Tree Foundation, Disaster Response Association of Thailand (DRAT) and network partners to open the “Frontline Coordination Center for Flood Victims in Chiang Mai” at RMUTL, with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Uthen Khamnan, Acting President of Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna, as the Center’s Director.

The Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation continued that the
center will have 7 missions to urgently help the people: 1. Opening a kitchen to cook food and produce drinking water from Hydro Pure drinking water production trucks to distribute to disaster victims both in the area and with self-pick-up service 2. Providing speedboat services for those who need assistance, such as patients, the elderly, young children, and delivering food and drinking water 3. Providing drone services for flooded areas and conducting aerial surveys by the Thai Disaster Response Association 4. Providing high-lift vehicles to enter risk areas with a team of over 50 volunteers and over 200 volunteer innovators 5. Providing shelter for disaster victims 6. Providing parking at RMUTL (Huai Kaew Road) and RMUTL Doi Saket and 7. Helping restore houses, repair water pumps, repair electrical appliances and electrical systems after the floods recede by volunteer innovators from all 9 RMUTLs.

“The suffering of our fellow citizens is an important mission of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, R
esearch and Innovation, which must bring all the units of the ministry together with cooperation with all sectors to urgently solve the problem and alleviate the suffering as quickly as possible. I would like to confirm that we will mobilize all forces, all technologies and innovations to help those currently affected by the disaster and are ready to help restore after the water recedes until the situation returns to normal,” said Ms. Supamas.
